Writing from the heart

I try to express myself with the written word, writing poems and essays about life and the love of nature. Each day is a gift, For going on 4 years I have been a cancer survivor, not once but twice, the first time in 2006 and again at the beginning of 2009. The prognosis is good that it will remain gone, but no one knows what tomorrow will bring. I believe having had this diagnosis has brought me to where I am right now, which is someone who no longer takes things at surface value, but instead takes the time to really look, look beyond the outside to what is inside. So much awaits our discovery, different cultures, music, beliefs, it is a wide and wonderful world, and I am honered to be a small part of it. So many talented people, I am grateful for this site where we can give voice to our art. Thank you Happy for this creative "home"

A Prayer/poem
For Today:

For Today may I have the courage
to speak from the heart

For today may I know the real
from the unreal

For today may my eyes see
only that which is good

For today may love enfold me
so that it may enfold others

For today may the light of love
which shines within
shine without

For today may the Creator
touch me in all of creation
So that my heart can grow

For today

Woman of the Earth

Native American Comments & Graphics
~Magickal Graphics~

She is
a woman of the earth
beautiful
in the shining sun
and just as lovely
maybe even more so
in the light
of the stars

The trees listen to
her soft footsteps
the animals know
her name
all tingle with… Continue

A single star
By Ramona L. Skidmore

A single star
shines bright as the day gives in
to the night

Like a sparkling
gem twinkling and
awakening my soul

I watch and wait for this little star
to be covered by the clouds
so near and yet
so far

But the clouds never do
surround it
no
this little star does not submit
nor give in
to the grayness which is all
around it

It holds its own
and becomes even more
powerful as the night
unfolds

As the darkness starts to weigh
heavy on my mind
and sleep take… Continue

Poetry

Hope

Hope lives in the heart
Of the bird
That
Sings in the silence
Of winter

Hope shines in the spirit
Of one
That
Has overcome
The pain
Of a broken heart

Hope lives in the body
Broken
And tired
From one too many
Obstacles
Yet, continues to
Heal and live

Hope shines in the soul
Battered and bruised
That
Continues on the path
To wholeness
Knowing that tomorrow
Or this very night
Something-called love
Something-called light
Something-called a miracle
Can
And will make
everything alright

Rectangles Vs. Triangles: The Great Sandwich Debate

You've got a lot of decisions to make as you build that leftover turkey sandwich. One decision you'll probably make with ease is whether to cut the sandwich into triangles or rectangles. If you go for the diagonal slice, you're in good company. Chefs, foodies, an architect and even a mathematician all told us: Diagonal rules. But why?
